The cardiologist Valentín Fuster currently combines roles as General Director of the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (CNIC) in Madrid and Director of the Cardiovascular Institute and Physician-in-Chief at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.

Valentín Fuster is internationally recognized as one of the world’s most influential physicians, scientists and promoters of health education. He is the only cardiologist to have received the top award of all four of the leading international professional bodies in this specialty. He currently directs the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) in Spain and the Cardiovascular Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and is editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. His research into the causes of myocardial infarction won recognition in a Principe de Asturias prize for scientific research.

Dr. Valentín Fuster’s self-defined mission is to integrate focused scientific research with the promotion of health through broad educational programs. This mission is the inspiration behind his leading participation in health education programs for children and adolescents. He is also the co-author of several books directed at a general audience, including La Ciencia de la Salud (The Science of Health) and Corazón y Mente (Heart and Mind). His latest book, La Ciencia de la Larga Vida (The Science of Long Life), examines the scientific basis of longevity and the importance of remaining physically, intellectually, and emotionally active.
