Main milestones in 2019

In 2019 we have maintained and expanded our research aid programs, as well as pstgraduate and postdoctoral sholarships abroad.

March

The seminar Understanding how economy works and how to use it in the interest of all was inaugurated by Gabriela Ramos, OECD Chief of Staff and Sherpa to the G7, and Nadia Calviño, Spanish Minister of Economy and Business.

April

Presentation of the book "The development of microbiology in Spain, Vol. 1". In memory of Professor Julio Rodríguez Villanueva.

The Foundation allocates EUR 5.2 million for 42 research projects for Life and Matter Sciences.

May

The Foundation's headquarters hosts the first The Nobel Prize Dialogue held in Europe outside Sweden. Five Nobel Prizes and more than twenty experts talked about the future of ageing.

Gérard Mourou, Nobel Prize for Physics in 2018, delivered the lecture Passion for Extreme Light.

Klaus von Klitzing, Nobel Prize for Physics in 1985, talks about The Quantum Hall Effect and the New International System: The Biggest Revolution in Metrology since the French Revolution.

June

Joachim Frank, Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2017, delivered the lecture: Single-particles cryo-electron microscopy: imaging of biological molecules at their native conditions.

September

The Foundation hosts the 5th Meeting on Spanish Innovation, Technological and Scientific Diplomacy, and the Association Network of Spanish Scientists and Researchers abroad.

October

The Foundation provides financial support for twelve new projects of Social Science research.

The Foundation sponsors the Santiago Ramón y Cajal Exhibition. 150 years in the University of Zaragoza.

November

The Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel includes the Fundación Ramón Areces in the International Plaza Donor Wall, site for recognition of major gifts on the Weizmann Institute of Science.

December

H.R.H. Grand Duke of Luxembourg attended a solemn ceremony in which the Fundación Ramón Areces was awarded the Medal of Honor of the Fundación Carlos de Amberes. Florencio Lasaga, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, received the award.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology awards the Medal of the 77 Society to the Fundación Ramón Areces.
