Sinopsis

My doctoral thesis aims to analyze the causes of gender inequalities in the labor market, with a specific focus on the impact of public policies. These inequalities, reflected in aspects such as labor force participation, work intensity, and family decisions, are the result of multiple structural and institutional factors that this research seeks to thoroughly understand.

The project leverages detailed administrative data, enabling the tracking of policy impacts across different populations and contexts. Additionally, advanced econometric techniques are applied to identify the causal effects of these interventions and provide robust evidence to inform policymaking.

A central element of the research is the analysis of policies related to early childhood education and care for children aged 0–3 years, a critical stage for child development and for facilitating the reconciliation of work and family responsibilities. These policies play a pivotal role in reducing gender gaps, particularly by promoting higher female labor force participation and a more equitable distribution of caregiving responsibilities.

Through this approach, my thesis aims not only to understand the underlying mechanisms that perpetuate gender inequalities but also to provide recommendations for the design of more inclusive and effective public policies. The findings of this research aspire to contribute to the broader debate on how to promote greater equality in the labor market, addressing both the needs of women and the family and societal dynamics that shape their decisions.
