Abstract

EThis research project aims to analyze the effects of air pollution, stemming from wildfires and volcanic eruptions, on children's human capital development in Indonesia. Specifically, the aim is to examine the short-term and long-term health, cognitive, and non-cognitive impacts of air pollution exposure on children.

The study will use satellite imagery to track various air pollutants, and household-level data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey. The methodology includes spatial analysis and micro-econometric estimation methods to identify causal effects of air pollution.

The project will also explore parental responses to environmental shocks, investigating how these interact with children's outcomes. The findings are expected to provide insights into environmental influences on child development, potentially applicable in different global contexts.
